All right, I admit it. This one has nothing to do with art. But I can’t help posting about one of the annual events that more or less defined my early childhood. I don’t even know how long the Jaycee Fair has been going on, but as far back as I remember, it shows up in the lot across from Hoover High School one week in June. It’s sometimes a little trashy and a lot broken down, but I thought it was the coolest thing in the world years ago.

Pictured is the Twister, which used to be called the Scrambler, and is still my favorite ride at these places. Also part of the annual tradition of walking around the lot is this:

This is an elephant ear. It is a terrible, terrible thing to eat. But it can also be pretty tasty. When I was young, our family always got one to split with everyone. Now, I get one of my own every year.
Oh, don’t look at me like that! I went to the gym earlier today!
