get a taste

Last Thursday was a pretty drastically hot change in the weather around here, but I got to hang out inside the tent at the first Taste of Canton event in the Kresge lot. The Canton Chamber of Commerce gathered a bunch of local restaurants to show off their best flavors in the form of delicious snacks.

I’ve been to a couple places around Canton, since I like to try to find local food before hitting up chains, but there were several there that I just hadn’t heard about. I also have to eat on a budget, so I was trying to find some places that I could grab a bite without having to check my bank balance. There are a couple smaller nearby places, but I hadn’t run into anything like Kanak Attack around here. I didn’t get to try their food, but it looked pretty tasty, not to mention different: sandwiches and salads with a Hawaiian flair. The Old Carolina BBQ Company may not have made incredibly photogenic food, but it’s hard to make barbecue look bad.

I did get a few snaps from some other local places:

Here’s a little chicken and cherry tomato skewer from Thorpe’s Market Avenue Grille. I always forget that there’s even a restaurant in the McKinley Grand Hotel.

The chef from Iris saw me taking photos and made this chorizo stuffed date just for me - before breaking my heart and handing it off to an actual paying customer.

Hello, beautiful. I saw these cookies over at the AppleTree Prepared Cuisine booth. Not pictured is the very tasty hummus that I tried, based on the chef’s mother’s mother’s recipe - the best kind of recipe, if you ask me.
