Now it’s time for the people from Cleveland to come down here for our film festival.

hartville fashion show
Last weekend, I was doing some of my grocery shopping when I stopped by the Hartville Marketplace. I used to live a street or so away from this place and all I really remember about it growing up was that it took an hour to make a left turn on a Monday, Thursday or Saturday. The place is growing on me a little more now that I don’t have to deal with that.
Anyway, I happened to come by while...

third thursday march
I am not certain when this started, but a part of me sort of hopes that First Friday had a part in it. I came across a flyer for Third Thursday while out a few weeks ago, and knew that if it was anything like the Canton incarnation, it would be a blast. The Akron Art Museum stayed open during the evening hours to let people have a chance to hang out in a local art center and hear a live concert by...
housekeeping
All right, that should get things started. Brand new calendar there, with a viable, live e-mail address on top. Please let people know to send stuff to that e-mail address so that it gets added to the calendar! I can’t get everything, but I’d like to at least get a good chunk of local events.
I ran into some issues for ongoing exhibits, so I’m testing this out. Any exhibits for...

d-i-y family
I thought it might be fun to do some reading of local writers, so I’ve done some research to find a few. When I first saw “All the Way Home: Building a Family in a Falling-Down House” by David Giffels, I balked. Yeah, I know he’s an Akron Beacon Journal writer and local so it should get our area some national attention, but I am normally not a huge fan of ‘we can...
not a lion
I really did plan on posting yesterday - I had the post outlined in my head and everything - and then I saw the weather. When there is usually so much snow around here this time of year, the sun is not to be ignored. It in fact demanded (politely) that I go outside.
Just as an update, I am going to set up an e-mail address for this blog, and I’ve been looking into calendar ideas so that I...

recycled sounds
It’s been a little quiet as far as artistic stuff happening this week. There’s more coming up in the next few weeks, I promise. I’m trying to keep on top of things, but there’s a lot going on that I’m still missing, too. I’m thinking of setting up an extra e-mail account just for notices and such. We’ll see.
Anyway, I caught a Canton Symphony Orchestra...

in like a lion
All right, so March has finally come around. If you remember this post from last month (my first back-link! I’m so excited!), I mentioned a kite store that I hadn’t seen before. Well, it’s sunny, brisk and windy. This would be a perfect day to go down to Zephyr Wind Art across from the 2nd April Galerie. I’d link to it, but I can’t find any Web link for the store.
I...

First Friday March
It is so great to listen to the rain right now - I know it’s only making things chilly and wet, but it’s so relaxing and at least different from the weather of the last few weeks. My backyard is sort of grey and mushy but so green and moderately alive for the first time in months.
The beautiful weather was just one more reason to head up to First Friday this weekend.
After a really...

art for the fridge
On the way home from work I wished to myself that the apartment would be a little bit quiet when I got home. I think I wished a little too hard, because we have a few technical difficulties around the apartment. Namely, we have no Internet or TV. Which is okay with me except for the fact that I can’t update things from home until it’s fixed sometime this weekend.
I came down to the...
attention writers
I know this is short notice, but I saw a flyer out at a local coffeeplace advertising that the North Canton Playhouse Studio Theatre is accepting scripts for the 2009 For Script to You: 2009 New Works Festival.
Short plays of any kind are accepted: monologues, 10-minute plays, single-acts. There are a few ways that scripts can be submitted, which you can find by clicking on the link above. The...
